This Week's Focus:

GOD HAS A PLACE FOR YOU!

FOREVER

It’s called “HIS REST”

A Verse To Remember

Read this month's memory verse:

Matthew 11:28-30

28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.

Now try to repeat it 5 times back to back. Let’s try real hard to memorize this one.

Activity

Wasn’t that a funny video during our childrens time?  Have any of you ever had someone tape a sign  with something silly written on it to your back? And then you keep going in circles to try and read it?  That’s what Caleb meant by what he shared the following this week with Jeff.  (see below)

“Because if we just keep turning from sin and turning from sin and turning from sin, we simply become a dizzy sinner!”

Repentance is not only turning FROM sin, but then turning TOWARD the freedom from it.

~What he’s saying is just like a dog chasing his tail trying to catch it, when you keep ‘chasing sin’ you're going to get dizzy and fall over.  If we repent (turn away from sin and turn towards God) we get to “rest” in the freedom.

Let’s do the craft to show this. I hope you can find all the supplies

Materials for CD Spinning Top Craft

  • CD (You can reuse an old CD or purchase a blank CD.)

  • Marble (We used some from a marble set like this one.)

  • Small plastic cap from water bottle

  • Hot glue gun (This is my favorite because it has dual temp controls.)

  • Optional: Chalk markers

Directions for Making CD Spinning Top Craft

  1. Decorate your CD. We used chalk markers to draw various designs on the shiny sides of ours

  2. Turn your decorated CD over and use your hot glue gun to glue a marble into the center hole of the CD. You can place the CD on a lid or bowl to hold it in place while gluing. (This step will need to be done by an adult if working with young children.)

  3. Turn your CD right-side up and glue a plastic cap to the center of the top of the CD. (This step will need to be done by an adult if working with young children.)

  4. That’s it! Once the glue is dry, use the plastic cap to spin your top and start spinning!

I want you to keep this somewhere this week where you will see it sitting there, so it will remind you to “rest” (just like you see “freedom” when it’s sitting still).  God wants us to take time to just be still so he can talk to us.

Resurrection Rolls  - A Family Easter Activity

Happy Easter Selah family!!!

Sadly another year will pass where we are unable to make these delicious rolls with our CM kids.  I’ve included the story and the recipe in case you get the chance to do this at home with your kids (or on you own because who doesn’t love these?)

Next year!!! We will do this together again…..

Until then blessings and hugs

Karen

Basically, Resurrection Rolls are a treat that you make where each step of the cooking process represents part of the Easter story. It’s a wonderful way to tell kids the Easter story AND the rolls themselves are  delicious!

What you’ll need:

  • 1 package of crescent rolls

  • 8 large marshmallows (plus extras to snack on while you’re waiting for the rolls to bake!)

  • 3 Tablespoons melted butter

  • 3 Tablespoons sugar plus 1 Tablespoon cinnamon

  • Parchment paper

  • Baking sheet or muffin tins

  • Bible (or use the “script” below)

How It’s Done:

Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. While the oven is preheating, get out your Bible and open up to John 19 or find the Easter story in a children’s Bible

Say: “Even though Jesus was perfect and had never sinned–he had never ever done anything wrong– some people did not like him. They wanted to hurt Jesus because he said he was God. They made Jesus carry a cross and they killed him. This made God very sad, but it was all part of His great rescue plan. When Jesus died, his friends took his body off the cross.”

Do: Give your child a marshmallow
Say: “This marshmallow represents Jesus’ body. Jesus died for you and for me, because we have sinned and we need to be rescued from our sin.”

Say: “After Jesus died, his friends came and they put special oil and spices on Jesus’ body to get him ready for burial.”
Do: Roll the marshmallow in melted butter, then in cinnamon sugar

Say: “Next, Jesus’ friends wrapped his body in special cloths–almost like a mummy! Jesus had died, and they were getting his body ready to bury.”
Do: Roll the cinnamon-sugar marshmallow up in a crescent roll (it won’t look like a crescent roll). Press all of the seams firmly. Repeat for each of the crescent rolls. Place the rolls on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet, or in a well-greased muffin tin.

Say: “Next, they laid Jesus’ body in a tomb. A tomb is like a big cave carved out of rock. Then big, strong soldiers rolled a heavy rock in front of the tomb so nobody could get in or out of the tomb. They even put a special seal over the entrance so they would know if anybody tried to move the rock that was in front of the entrance. Soldiers stood in front of the tomb to guard it day and night.”
Do: Put the rolls in the oven and set your timer for 10-12 minutes. Let the rolls bake until they are golden-brown.

Say: “Jesus was dead in the tomb for three days. Let’s count to three: one, two, three. How many days was he in the tomb? That’s right, three days.”
Do: When the rolls are done baking, take them out of the oven and let them cool  for about 20 minutes.

Say: “Three days after Jesus had died, an angel of God appeared to one of Jesus’ friends. He told her that Jesus was alive! Jesus’ friends decided to look in the tomb where they had put Jesus’ body, but when they did, it was empty! Jesus had risen! And still today, Jesus is alive. Today he lives in heaven with God.”
Do: Cut open one of the rolls. The marshmallow has melted, so the “tomb” is now empty

Do: Eat your yummy rolls!
Say: “These rolls are sweet, just like the love of God. God made you and he loves you very much. And some day, if you choose to love and follow God, you will be able to spend forever and ever in heaven with him and Jesus. The Bible tells us that Jesus is our Great Rescuer. The Bible tells us that the only way to Heaven is through loving and believing in Jesus. We celebrate Easter, because Jesus died and rose again so that we could have a way to Heaven.”

Bible Memory

A Verse to Remember:  Matthew 11:28-30

28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.

Bible Story

Today is Palm Sunday!  People went crazy when Jesus came riding into town on a donkey. They wanted to see the guy who had raised Lazarus from the Dead! But why the palm branches?

And why the donkey?

First lets talk about the donkey. Way back after a army won a war the king would ride into a conquered land on a donkey!

Now the palm branches, it was the custom to wave palm branches as a way to say “WE WON!!! THE VICTORY IS OURS!!!!

Crazy thing, people believed Jesus was the Messiah (God’s chosen One) who would lead them into the "promised land" and win a victory over their enemies the Romans!  Things got really crazy when the people realized Jesus didn’t come to win an army battle. They got so mad the same people in the crowd who were cheering for him, ended up doubting he was God’s chosen one. “Crucify him!” was the next thing that came out of their mouths.

It Get’s even CRAZIER!!!!!!  Jesus knew all along that he was going to Jerusalem to die on the cross. And that God would use his death give the people a victory they didn’t even know they needed!!!!  See your Gospel story in John 12.l

That’s right. You can also look up the scriptures in the “Trusting Jesus I Am CRAZY FREE …. TO LOVE AND BE LOVED THE WAY GOD LOVES ME!” Craft! You will discover Jesus was on his way to victory that Palm Sunday!! We celebrate it in more detail next week on Easter Sunday!  And the Victory he won is crazy.  Look them up in the bible and you will see. Jesus won a victory over the power of sin, over the power of satan and even the power of death!  CRAZY!

AND CRAZIER THAN EVEN CRAZIER!!!!!!  WHEN I TRUST IN JESUS I AM CRAZY FREE TO LOVE AND BE LOVED LIKE GOD LOVES ME!” WOW THAT’S GOODS NEWS!  Or as the bible says,

“No despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us”. Roman’s 8:37.  YAY GOD

Activity

If you came to the Selah Centre we had palm leaves.  For Jeff’s craft.  Colour the leaves green in the palm leaf below and then cut it out so you can make your own poser, like jeff did below!

If you want to get really complicated. You can use Joanne’s craft instructions where you can take 3 leaves from the palm branch and make a cross!

Palm Sunday, what a crazy day!!!!!!!

Love ya family
