Your home, a place of heavenly encounter and
a mission from heaven to earth!
This Week's Focus:
SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM
“ONE ON ONE WITH JESUS”
Family Assignment #1:
Memorize
MATTHEW 6:31-33 (memorize)
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

What if all of heaven was available to you? How would that change the way you live?
(see Ephesians 1:4, 2 Peter 1:3-5)
#2 PARENTS DO THIS FOR YOUR KIDS!

As a parent, I’d invite you to spend time “one on one” time with Jesus. Invite Jesus to show you how to inspire your children (without being religious) to fully grasp that Jesus has proved for us all a better way to live. Hint: assuming you’ve already looked at the 3 scriptures above, check out 2 Peter 1:5-11.
#3 Night Time Bible Story
The Truth Delivers.
Bible Story: Matthew 3:1-17 John the Baptist, the religious and Jesus.
Religious leaders (Sadducees and Pharisees,) came to John the Baptist in the wilderness. How does Jesus’ visit to John differ from that of the religious leaders? It’s a good question. Follow Jesus’ lead on this and you’ll get a truth about your walk with God and God’s heart for you that will blow your mind!

We began this month by asking our family to brain storm different ways to put God’s Kingdom (JESUS) and His righteousness (living by faith) “first” in our day! Do a check-in with your kids to see how they have put the kingdom first and lived by faith recently.
#2 PARENTS DO THIS FOR YOUR KIDS!

I can’t overemphasize this point enough, as parents, we have the most awesome privilege to spend time on on one time with Jesus. How many parents have I talked to who are desperate for their kids to be loving God. Especially, when their children move into the later teenage years. They often feel like they need the “right” youth group, a better program, and fight that paternal desire to force their kids to grow in faith, or risk the despair of wanting to just give up.
What if the most important resource is at home? What if it’s got less to do with amazing programming and all the things you can tangibly put before your children? They are all good things I might add. But what if the most important ingredient for your child’s faith growth comes from watching you. Does one on one time with Jesus provide you with the fruit of the spirit. Do they see you grow in faith, trust and love? Do they experience what it’s like to have you confess sin when you have sinned, especially against them… Think about how amazing it is, we get to talk with Jesus about our kids. And the creator of the universe, our Daddy God gets to show us and share with us all that He is doing and saying with regard to our own children’s lives. That’s how conversations go. You talk and live, and He listens, works and speaks to us amidst our days…DAILY BREAD!
Yes, read God’s Word for all insights it has for raising children. But as you do, even more important, spend time looking for and listening to the One who is THE WORD OF GOD!
One on on one time with Jesus, we just can’t live without it!
#3 Night Time Bible Story
The Truth Delivers.
Share these Scriptures with your kids. Does anything surprise them about Jesus’ relationship with the Father? Why do they think Jesus is telling us what he tells us in these verses. Make a personal connection with the verses. Share with Jesus your thoughts. Then rest in His Presence and see if he has anything to say to you. Keep your eyes open throughout the day too! You might just see what the Father is doing for you! “Greater Works”- promised to Jesus. Promised to us. How? By learning to do life spending “One on one time with Jesus” :)
Bible Story:
John 5:19-20
19 Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these, so that you will be amazed.
John12:44-49
44 Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. 45 The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me. 46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
47 “If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day. 49 For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. 50 I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.”

#2 PARENTS DO THIS FOR YOUR KIDS!

Hello parents! Think of all the things we do for our kids. Got your list? Take a moment to prioritize that list. What do you see as the most important thing you do on a daily basis for your children. Is it feed them? Clothe them? Tuck them in at night? Or is it that you make sure they’ve finished their homework and learned some good work habits?
I’m wondering if on your list you had, “I as a parent, need to spend one on one time with Jesus”. I confess I don’t brush my teeth everyday (ewww, I know), I sometimes forget my vitamins. And yes there are days where I have not taken that one on one time with Jesus. But I still feel this might be the most valuable thing you and I can do for our kids as a parent? Especially, when it comes to the fact that people and christians have the potential to disappoint, let us down, or just plain grieve our hearts.
Spending time “one on one with Jesus” is that daily thing that keeps our hearts in the place it needs to be. For when you go to work. Or seek to provide some constructive feedback on that “wonderfully revealing” choice of clothing. Or respond to that attitude you’re getting from someone who says that say today’s work can wait till tomorrow? Or for gaining some strategy to deal with the the drama that comes with knowing people!
“One on one time with Jesus” is a key component to parenting well in the Kingdom of Heaven :). With Jesus we get to “parent” … “on earth as it is in heaven….”
The memory verse invites us to seek first the Kingdom of Heaven and God’s righteousness. Spending time “one one one with Jesus” will get you into the kingdom and God’s righteousness! Sounds like a good place to live. Check in with your kids to see if they got some one on one time with Jesus. Better yet, share a little something God gave you as you spent one one time with Him.
#3 Night Time Bible Story
The Truth Delivers.
Bible Story: Forgiveness its your “get out of jail card”
Matthew 18:21- 35
Peter asks Jesus, “How often should I forgive someone who sins against me?”
Read the story. Ask each other, how does this story make you feel. Why? Take a moment to share those feelings with Jesus. What does he say in response? Did anyone make you sad or angry today. What was it that they “took” from you. Let’s forgive and trust Jesus to provide for us all that we need.

SEEK FIRST - THE KINGDOM
“ONE ON ONE WITH JESUS”
MATTHEW 6:31-33
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
If God is always present, what does it mean to seek first the kingdom?
Ask your kids what they think? Then as a family share the different ways you put God’s Kingdom (JESUS) and His righteousness “first” in your day!

New Truths I Never Knew!

#2 PARENTS DO THIS FOR YOUR KIDS!
As a parent, I’d invite you to spend time with Jesus. Ask Him what might you do to point your kids to spending time with Jesus.
I remember the impression it made on my heart coming down stairs early in the morning and seeing my dad on his knees by the couch with his bible next to him. To this day he shares with me what God is showing him in his devotions.
My one daughter when she turned 18, began to spread her wings. Hardly ever home, trying parties for the first time, working hard. There were things about her new “freedom” that made me nervous. But mixed in with these new things were incredible things of glory! I asked God what am I to do. Clear as day he said, “keep your hands off”. Instead of conversations where I try to control the outcome, my daughter feels honoured and respected, and share with me the many choices, and decisions she is making as she begins to make decisions about how she want to live her adult life. It’s glorious!!! Thank YOU JESUS!
Parents, take some time to go “one on one” with Jesus…do this for your kids.
#3 Night Time Bible Story
The Truth Delivers.
Bible Story: Pick a story from the message or read them all
After each one, talk about what spoke or stood out to each of you. Then just talk about what is relevant for today and tomorrow, as far as your own lives go. And finally, encourage one another with the truth that we get to do life, “one on one with Jesus”!!! Pretty cool!!! Scripture stories from Sunday message:
After a busy day and before a busy day: Mark 1:35-39

Before a big decision (choosing the 12) Luke 6:12-13

Amidst a spontaneous request (mom at the wedding) John 2:1-11
Amidst the gut wrenching pain of life and sin (Father forgive them…) Luke 23:33-43
