But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5:22-23
Reflection:
Early in April, 2021 Donna McKenna gave me a call. She wanted to know why I wanted her to share todays message. Donna had been scheduled to speak, along with everyone else in December. Only the dates were picked not the topics. So when we had this conversation she still didn’t know the topic was for her Sunday message.
“Why do yo want me to speak?” she asked. “Well because I love you Donna!” “Sure” she said. That answer didn’t seem to suffice. “Because I love to celebrate the diversity of people we have in leadership” I said. “Ok, she said, but why me?” “Because I think it’s good for folk to hear multiple voices share God’s heart”….(pause) “I love what you carry”… “Fine” she said, “So what am I speaking on”. I said, “the fruit of the Spirit”. She gasped.Then she joyfully responded saying,“that’s exactly what I was preaching on when I was in the spirit today” … “Oh I feel so much better” she exclaimed. “God is good”.
“Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” - I experienced all those things as I spoke with Donna that afternoon! Week after week, year after year, Donna continues to bless me in the life-in-Christ that we get to walk together in the time that we are given!
