we help the kids see that Jesus wanted to borrow something from Peter —and Peter had to decide if he’d be willing to share with Jesus his stuff… wow! Would you share your stuff with Jesus?

Reflection:
God has had me in Hebrews and 1st and 2nd Peter since I started trucking-pre-covid! God has used these three little books to radically minister to my heart. You’ve heard how God has ministered to my heart through the book of Hebrews. From February to the end of September you’ll discover how God has used Peter’s Epistles to minister to me as well.
But for this Sunday…. if Jesus wanted to borrow some of your stuff so he could do ministry on the earth would you let him? In Luke’s Gospel that’s how it all begins for Peter. For the month of February I’d invite you to read and reread Luke 5:1-11—as many times as possible—-and in between, let God use these eleven verses to help you get closer to Jesus.
Oh yes that’s true … what about Peter’s letters. Over the last 2-3 years you’ve heard me say 1 Peter 1:18 from the Passion Translation has become a bit of a mantra (a repeated phrase), keeping my heart in check through all its many twists and turns. So of course this will be our verse to remember.
As for this Sunday, no matter where you are in life, 1 Peter 1:1-19 wants to remind you that “you are not forgotten”.
In fact the opposite is true! You are chosen, you have a God destiny and the Holy Spirit is leading you all the way! It gets even better there’s amazing grace, peace, extravagant mercy, a living energetic hope. A whole new way of doing life with God, a perfect inheritance. One that will never perish, never be defiled and never diminish, sound familiar ? … read Hebrews :). Or read 1 Peter 1:1-10 in the Passion Translation - or whatever Translation fits your fancy! If these words don’t just knock your socks off and make you want to dance I don’t know what will? So come on, begin to read Peter’s letters with me and let God continue bring you and I closer to Jesus.
Back to our Gospel story. If Jesus asked you if he could borrow some of your stuff to help him accomplish what he wants to accomplish on earth…. would you let him. Peter did and it radically changed his life …. FOREVER!
