Feb 13 There is a future world coming. See Jesus now. Hebrews 2:4-10
Memory Verse: “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life”.
Gospel Story: Luke 18:18-30 “… in this life …and in the world to come.”
Read: Hebrews 2:4-10
4 And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.
Jesus, the Man
5 And furthermore, it is not angels who will control the future world we are talking about. 6 For in one place the Scriptures say,
“What are mere mortals that you should think about them, or a son of man[a] that you should care for him?
7 Yet for a little while you made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.[b]
8 You gave them authority over all things.”
Now when it says “all things,” it means nothing is left out. But we have not yet seen all things put under their authority. 9 What we do see is Jesus, who for a little while was given a position “a little lower than the angels”; and because he suffered death for us, he is now “crowned with glory and honor.” Yes, by God’s grace, Jesus tasted death for everyone. 10 God, for whom and through whom everything was made, chose to bring many children into glory. And it was only right that he should make Jesus, through his suffering, a perfect leader, fit to bring them into their salvation
Reflection:
Sometimes we get so caught up in the things of this world that we forget God promises us a “future world”. Concerning the present we can at least give a sigh of relief when Hebrews tells us “we have not yet seen all things put under their authority” - that is “humanity’s Godly authority has not yet been fully realized, yet. Phew, we are not deluded thinking that this world is not yet the world that is to come.
That being said, the author of Hebrews wants us to focus our attention on what we can see, ironically, now. And what is that you ask? The writer reminds us loud and clear, “What we do see is Jesus….” Focus on Jesus who we do see, if we want to see the world to come? Yes, the secret as relates to the world to come, is that we must see Jesus now.
Follow Peter’s second letter to the end and you will see he never turned away from his declaration in Luke 18. He knows in his heart of hearts that to keep your footing secure now, so that we may take that “step” into the world to come “you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2Peter3:18)
There is a future world coming… if you want to see it … you need to see Jesus now!
