He is TRUTH- I am SURE. Truth is Jesus.

In the presence of Jesus, Pilate asked, “What is truth?” Great question!

One of Jesus favourite phrases in the Gospels is, “I tell you the truth”

The real kicker of Scripture is when Jesus is quoted saying,

I am the way, the truth and the life,

no one comes to the Father except through me.

(John 14:5-6)

Reflection:

Since June I’ve (Pastor Jeff) been reading over and over 1st and 2nd Peter. After all these years of reading Scripture, this is the first time I’ve read Peter’s letters with a real sense of “Hey, this was written by that guy from the Gospels”. Peter, you know the one who had the miracle catch, cut the ear off some dude, pulled his tax payment out the mouth of a fish, denied knowing Jesus and then went swimming to have breakfast on the beach with his resurrected friend. This is the Peter who wrote these letters. And I am amazed. Why now make the connection to Peter in the Gospels?

God has put it on my heart, just like Laurie directs our attention to the fact that “Truth is a person I come to know.” Take some time over the next couple of weeks to see what God has to say to you from 1st and 2nd Peter.

But before you do that, I encourage you to skim over the “I tell you the truth” statements of Jesus in the Gospels. Meditate on the things Jesus says.

This month, let’s celebrate that in Christ we can “know the truth and the truth will set us free.” John 8:32.

WE GET TO KNOW JESUS!!! TRUTH INCARNATE!! WOW!!!

John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

1 John 1:51 Then he said, “I tell you the truth, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down on the Son of Man, the one who is the stairway between heaven and earth.”

John 3:3 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”

John 4:18 for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now. You certainly spoke the truth!”

John 4:23 But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way

John 4:24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

John 5:19 So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.

John 5:24 “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.

John 6:26 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs.

John 6:32 Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven.

John 6:47 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life.

John 6:53 So Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you.In Context | Full Chapter | Other Translations

John 7:18 Those who speak for themselves want glory only for themselves, but a person who seeks to honor the one who sent him speaks truth, not lies.

John 8:26 I have much to say about you and much to condemn, but I won’t. For I say only what I have heard from the one who sent me, and he is completely truthful.”

John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.

John 8:40 Instead, you are trying to kill me because I told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing.

John 8:44 For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.

John 8:45 So when I tell the truth, you just naturally don’t believe me!

John 8:46 Which of you can truthfully accuse me of sin? And since I am telling you the truth, why don’t you believe me?

John 8:51 I tell you the truth, anyone who obeys my teaching will never die!”

John 8:58 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I am!”

John 10:1 The Good Shepherd and His Sheep

“I tell you the truth, anyone who sneaks over the wall of a sheepfold, rather than going through the gate, must surely be a thief and a robber!

John 10:7 so he explained it to them: “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.

John 12:24 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives.

John 12:48 But all who reject me and my message will be judged on the day of judgment by the truth I have spoken.
