April 23 Resurrection Power for your Work LIFE: a labour of love
Scripture to Remember:
11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. Romans 8:11
Gospel Story: Acts 3:1-15 “neither silver or gold do I have, but what i do have I give you…”
1 Peter 3:10-12
10 For the Scriptures say,“If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies.11 Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.12 The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers.But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.”
Reflection:
With Holy Spirit on the move and the same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead living in us, it affects our life at home, our life together, and flows into our work life and the world in which we live. Resurrection power “in us” makes whatever we do in life become a “labour of love”, His Love.
In today’s Gospel story Peter and John are heading to the temple for an afternoon prayer service. It is a moment so ordinary and everyday, yet filled with resurrection power. Met by a lame man in need of spare change Peter and John give him more than he asked for, “Neither silver or Gold do I, but what i do have I’ll give you, in the name of Jesus get up and walk”. The man, his “feet and ankles were instantly healed”. And off to the temple prayer he went, “walking, leaping and praising God”. Just another ordinary day filled with Resurrection power. Our walk into the world where we live, work and worship becomes a labour of love.
When you ponder your work life this week. Ponder to the fact that do life with resurrection power living inside of you. Remember there is a promise that goes with Romans 8:11, “he will give life to your mortal bodies by the same spirit living within you.” So with that promise in mind i would love for you to imagine this, What if the only scripture you had available to you was 1 Peter 3:10-12 (some people have less). With Resurrection power inside of you ponder the direction provided in these verses when it comes to going to work. I like how the passion translation expresses these verses:
“Whoever wants to embrace true life and find beauty in each day must stop speaking evil and hurtful words and never deceive in what they say. Always turn from what is wrong and cultivate what is good; eagerly pursue peace in every relationship, making it your prize. For the eyes of the Lord Yahweh rest upon the Godly and his heart responds to their prayers. But he turns his back on those who practice evil.” 1 Peter 3:10-12 TPT
It’s my prayer for every believers that our ordinary days and our everyday jobs reflect the real world of God’s Kingdom -where resurrection power is the norm. May today and everyday you go to work be filled with resurrection power. It lives in you. And comes with a promise. “LIFE” for your mortal body, the one that takes you to work everyday—-a labour of love!
