May 1 What God Does!
THE CHOSEN!
God’s Choice Reveals His Love!
A Verse to Remember:
1 Peter 2:9 ... for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
Todays Scripture: Hebrews 5:1-3
Every high priest is a man chosen to represent other people in their dealings with God. He presents their gifts to God and offers sacrifices for their sins. 2 And he is able to deal gently with ignorant and wayward people because he himself is subject to the same weaknesses. 3 That is why he must offer sacrifices for his own sins as well as theirs.
Gospel Story: Luke 5:1-11 Jesus Chooses His First Disciples
Reflection:
There is something about being chosen. It’s good for the heart. Remember when you wanted to be on so and so’s team and you were chosen. “YES!” so and so wants me! They “chose” me!. Wow i’m valued.
Hey the same is true about our relationship with God.The Good News we get to share and experience, is this, YOU ARE CHOSEN. 1 Peter 2:9 reminds us that we “are a chosen people”. God chooses His people. The very fact you love Jesus is a sign that you are one of God’s “Chosen”. Jesus makes this point when He says, “you did not choose me, I chose you. …” John 15:16. 1st John says something similar when it reminds us that, “This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” Real love, that’s what God’s choice is all about! And GOD LOVES YOU FOR REAL!
LOVE CHOOSES YOU & I! Yes God loves US so much He not only chooses us, GOD also chooses to bring people into our lives who help us do life with Him and others! Way back in Moses day, God chose someone to be a High Priest. They had fancy clothes, were highly honoured in their community as God’s choice for that role. What did they do? They were responsible to oversee (guide and protect) and care (love and nurture) for not only the temple but God’s people too. For a better description of the High Priest’s responsibilities read, Hebrews 5:1-3 above. Pretty amazing. In some sense the High Priest was a lot like a loving caring parent who wanted the best for God’s kids, God’s Family. He wanted them to have the best relationship possible with one another, and with God! Today let’s remember, YOU ARE CHOSEN and the the choices God makes reveal HIS LOVE!
