Let Peter help you get closer to Jesus!
Jesus Encourages Peter to believe in himself
A Verse to Remember:
live each day with holy awe and reverence throughout your time on earth! 1 Peter 1:18 TPT
Gospel Story: Luke 5:1-11 THIS WILL BE THE CHILDREN’S GOSPEL STORY FOR FEBRUARY :)
We often think to get closer to Jesus we just have to trust him more. True, perhaps. But today I want you to see that Jesus wants us to have faith in ourselves! Can you trust Jesus with his trust in you? Peter did! It’s the ultimate of trusting Jesus with “your stuff”. And so after rereading Luke 5:1-11. Let’s celebrate how in verse 10 Jesus reveals his confidence in Peter to do what matters to God!
Today’s Scripture: 1 Peter 1:13-23 revel in the reward!
Reflection:
Peter probably didn’t think that the moment he trusted Jesus with his stuff that that would include all of him! But it did and it does! Today I want you to imagine that when you share your stuff with Jesus, God has this incredible message for you, “GOD TRUSTS IN YOU”.
If we will let Peter’s example be our guide we discover that as we get closer to Jesus as we trust in Him, we discover He has in us! Sound strange? It’s glorious! The very fact you say yes to Jesus, it opens the heavens, the Goodness of God then pours out blessings that have to be shared with others. Before even being asked, Peter began to share with others the Good News. It just flows out of us when God starts flowing within and around us. But what I want you to see today is in the midst of the miracle, a miracle often overlooked is the fact that God trusts Peter accomplish the purposes of Heaven through trusting in Jesus Christ! WOW!
It’s hard to know this and “think clearly and exercise self-control” as 1 Peter 1:13 invites us to do! In a flash Peter (Luke 5:1-11) trusts Jesus with his stuff (his boat), then his life (fishing) and is blown “out of the water” (fish where there were no fish). The heavens open and He gets blessed beyond all that he could take in for himself, he had to share. His cry for help is evangelism 101! What God is doing is overwhelming. Humbling. Peter does’t confess sin because he’s been caught in the act. His confession comes because of the Goodness of Kindness of God that Jesus is revealing. And what happens next is from an earthly perspective unimaginable. “Don’t be afraid”….. GOD TRUST’S HIM TO DO WHAT GOD WANTS HIM TO DO! … let Jesus show him how to “fish for people! Ahhh but that’s for next week—a God purpose and destiny
