Jesus reveals to Peter the Goodness of God

Gospel Story: Luke 5:1-11 THIS WILL BE THE CHILDREN’S GOSPEL STORY FOR FEBRUARY :)
This week Peter discovers the goodness of God comes from trusting Jesus! The focus here will be on vs 4 to 7 (after you’ve read 1-11 again :) ). Trust Jesus and you will see the goodness of God!
Today’s Scripture: 1 Peter 1:9-12 Your reward…it’s not just for you, Angels watch with anticipation.
Reflection: So you shared your stuff with Jesus, now what? If it’s anything like Peter’s story you too will soon discover the goodness of God.
Last week in 1 Peter 1:1-10, we reviewed all the benefits that are ours in Christ. If you can tell me what they all are without looking back at those verses … You’re amazing. Even if you can’t, you’re still amazing. But i’d encourage you to remind yourself of all that yours because you trust Jesus—don’t be shy read one Peter 1:1-10 again and be blessed. Don’t let it pass you by.
Now 1 Peter 1:9-12 expands upon these gracelettes (v1-9) helping us put a Promise of God’s God’s into perspective:
What is the promise? Verse 9, “the reward for trusting him (Jesus) will be the salvation of your souls”. Pay attention to see how heaven sees this reward and how manifests itself on earth!
Take note, your salvation was a mystery to the prophets of old -they wondered when and how? Your salvation is answered prayer to the mystery of what God spoke to the prophets.
You too are also connected to the prophets of old, as the “Spirit of Christ within them” spoke of Christ’s great suffering and his great glory afterward. The Spirit of Christ is in YOU!
Like Peter and the Prophets of old, when we put our trust in the Spirit of Christ God’s message to us is not just for ourselves but for others too! Peter’s story in Luke 5 makes this real and tangible. Others had to come help Peter, his nets were overflowing with fish. The goodness of God has to be shared!
“Now this goodness has been announced to you by those who preached in the power of the Holy Spirit sent from Heaven” . This moment for Peter is like a mini Pentecost! So to when You trust in Jesus it sets the stage for a reward, a salvation that is bigger than you. This “reward” opens a heavenly portal that can’t help but become a blessing to the lives of others.
So much so that even the angels in heaven are on the edge of their seats looking on waiting to see how God’s reward in your life will become a blessing for others. Follow in Peter’s footsteps, trust Jesus and you will see the Goodness of God. It will not only bless your life it will bless the lives of others.
